The informational narratives Fluffy and Charlie Visit the Fire Hall and Friend or Foe (a strange but true polar bear encounter) provide a bridge from fiction to nonfiction texts. The nonfiction titles focus on animal attributes and life cycles. Spiders has a question and answer format. Guess the Mystery Animal - Book Ten contains the same format as in previous Guess the Mystery Animal books, giving the reader a structure that scaffolds the introduction of new vocabulary and language structures.
